Cooper & Baseline Weather Station Info
 
The Station
This weather station consists of a Davis Vantage Pro2 Weather Station. The station measures:
- barometric pressure
- temperature
- humidity
- rainfall
- wind speed and direction and much more
The anemometer is located just above the peak of the roof. The ISS, the main base unit, is located in the back yard 5' above a grassy area and
wirelessly sends data to the console. It has recently been fitted with a fan-aspirated radiation shield.
 
 
Data Quality
We share our data with the CWOP (Citizens Weather Observer Program) to help make sure our data is accurate. Our station call sign is CW6490. The CWOP site checks our weather data against neighboring weather stations to verify its quality.
Data that falls outside of expected values is reported back to this station. You can check the current status of our data quality in a graphical display by visiting the following link:

Affiliations
We participate in the Arizona Skywarn Storm Spotter Program. As a Skywarn Spotter in Gilbert, AZ when significant or severe weather occurs at this station, observations are reported to National Weather Service in Phoenix AZ for dissemination to the general public via weather watches and warnings.
The following criteria would be reported to the NWS:
- Tornado
- Funnel cloud
- Rotating wall cloud
- Downbursts (Microburst)
- Winds in excess of 40MPH
- Heavy Rain - rainfall greater than 1/2" per half hour
- Damage, deaths or injuries due to a weather event
- Hail (greater than pea size diameter)
- Flooding
- Visibility less than 1/4 mile (due to fog, dust etc...)

In addition to uploading our data to the Citizens Weather Observer Program (CWOP) as station # CW6490 where data is shared with over 500 different user organizations (like the National Weather Service), Rainlog.org (a cooperative rainfall network at the U of A), we joined CoCoRaHS (Community Collaborative Rain, Hail & Snow Network) and our rain data can also been seen on the CoCoRaHS website as station AZ-MR-280.
